Arsenal FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #32

What a tough way to exit the FA Cup!

It was a scoreless match until the 84th minute in the semifinals vs Manchester City and it appeared headed to extra time, but an unfortunate deflection from a Bernardo Silva bounces off of Marc Cucurella’s chest and right into the back of the next gave the Man City a 1-0 lead and win to advance into the FA Cup Finals ending our hopes at a chance of any trophies for the 2023-24 campaign.

Now back in Premier League action as the lads head up to North London to face rivals Arsenal FC in a midweek match to focus on fighting to a European spot for the next season. The squad will have to somehow surpass both West Ham and Manchester United in the EPL table in order to qualify for any European competition for next season. Only 7 matches left in the season, let make it count!

Another late minute draw for the lads this past weekend, but this is a new week for the lads to bring home 3pts. There are a lot of positives, but also a lot of opportunity for the boys to pull it together. On the bright side,... we are scoring! On the downside, our defense has more holes than my 5th grade underwear!

Get on down to The Londoner in Addison and cheer on the lads to a victory and we wind down the season. If nothing else, we will have a good time having a pint and cheering on CFC. Lets gooooooooooo!

What a disappointing result!

The lads could not break a 2-2 draw to 19th placed Burnley who during the match not only went a man down, but also had their manager, Vincent Kompany sent off. Cole Palmer calmly put away the penalty to lift the Blues to a 1-0 lead before the half, but Burnley came out on the attack with a wonderful kick outside the box to beat Petrovic and tie the game up 1-1. We could not take advantage of the extra man and Cole Palmer carry the offensive workload with two goals.

Up next? The Red Devils come to the bridge to take on the Blues in a midweek matchup important to where both teams will finish at the end of the season.

We are back from International Break!

It’ll be a challenging stretch with eleven Premier League matches remaining to close out the season and already, there’s fixture congestion with the lads advancing into the FA Cup Semifinals. There are 2 mid week matches already scheduled between weekend fixtures and against top table teams, Manchester United & Arsenal in the month of April.

But first, the boys need to take care of business at home vs Burnley FC. The Clarets currently sit 2nd to bottom of the table and are still battling it out to avoid relegation. Vincent Kompany and his squad will fresh from a two week break ready to bring the fight to the Blues.

Still winless against Brentford!

Too many missed chances to take the West London Derby. The lads found themselves down 1-2 and appeared headed to another defeat against the Bees, but a 83rd minute header from Axel Disasi leveled the match late ending in a 2-2 draw keeping the Blues mid-table and battling it with the likes of Brighton, Wolves & Fulham. One team just above the rest is our next opponent, Newcastle. Last time we faced them it ended in an ugly defeat 1-4 with Reece James sent off. It’s been a month since we last played a home league match (one FA 5th cup round match vs Leeds in between). It’s been a rough go the last few weeks, lets get back some home support and rally the boys for this one!

Brentford FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #26

What a week it has been!

A thrilling offensive night against rival Leeds in the 5th round of the FA Cup, but there we plenty of head scratching moments in this 3-2 victory. It was deadlock until the 90th minute and appeared destined for extra time before Conor Gallagher provided the go ahead winner in the 1st minute of stoppage time. Mauricio Pochettino shuffled up the starting XI with 5 changes including Robert Sanchez &Trevor Chalobah returning after a long absence. It’s a reminder that this is still a very young team playing in the most competitive league in Europe.

Up next? The lads are back to Premier League action facing local rivals Brentford FC in a West London derby match. It’s going to be a challenge as the Blues are winless in the last four matches vs The Bees and in a goalless drought spanning 3 matches against. Last goal scored was back in 2021 when Antonio Rudiger booted a wonderful 35 year screamer to take a 1-nil lead, and then it went downhill from there with Brentford immediately leveling the score up plus 3 more to seal a 1-4 defeat at the Bridge. The boys needs to step it up and break this losing streak against their West London rival.

Manchester City FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #25

Thrilling end at Selhurst Park!

What appeared to be a tough draw vs Crystal Palace after struggling early during the match, the lads struck late with two goals in stoppage time and escape South London with three points!

The 1st half was one to forget after Noni Madueke was robbed of the ball while trying to get out of their own defensive half and Jefferson Lerma stuck a world class goal on Dorde Petrovic to take a 1-0 lead, but Mauricio Pochettino got the boys to play much better to start the 2nd half & Conor Gallagher nabbed his 1st PL goal of the season to level up the score in the 47th minute. He then nabbed a double as they went onto take control of the match in the 90th minute, and Enzo Fernandez topped off the night in a brilliant counter attack goal that left the goal keeper & defenders going the wrong way.

Up next, a trip up to north to face the current PL Champions, Manchester City. Last match in November ended in a thrilling 4-4 draw at the Bridge. Let hope we can get the same amount of action in this match as the last.

Feels great to get a victory!

After two brutal PL losses, the lads were able to pickup a crucial 3-1 victory in the midweek FA Cup 4th round replay vs Aston Villa and advance on to the next round. The squad started off strong from the start and thoroughly dominated Villa for much of the match, there were a very hairy moments in the waning moments of the replay including a late goal as stoppage time was added, but the opposition offer no further attack as time ended.

Up next, we are back in PL action at Selhurst Park vs London rivals, Crystal Palace. They too are coming off a crushing defeat, losing 1-4 to Brighton. This may be the last match for the current manager, Roy Hodgson who is clinging for his job if he doesn’t produce a result.

What an ugly defeat!

Embarrassing to say the least. VAR & the refs did not help matters with the questionable no calls on suspect penalties, but the boys came out flat vs Liverpool and didn’t muster much of any fight against their press in a 1-4 defeat. Matches are coming quick! A 3 day turnaround and another PL matchup vs Wolves is up next. They are coming off the short end of a high goal scoring affair vs Manchester United ending in 3-4. What a Christmas hangover!

A soul crushing 1-2 defeat against Wolves on Christmas Eve where the squad could not take advantage of their clear cut chances including a wasteful 3 vs GK break that should’ve been the breakthrough of the 1st goal. It’s been the hallmark of the season wasting this many chances and not mustering a shot on target. Nicholas Jackson with so many opportunities but he needs to dribble the ball when possessing the ball before each attempted shot, the result is he has more yellow cards for discipline than goals this season.

May be at the point of just resetting this season and prepare for a clean start, but first up after the holiday is a midweek home matchup against Crystal Palace. The lads will be without Cole Palmer & Raheem Sterling in attack as both are out for suspension for yellow card accumulation. Christopher Nkunku tallied his first league goal of the season and will be in line for his 1st PL start of the season. Let’s hope the boys will bring some energy at the Bridge and come out victorious.

A nice run of form in the last few matches.

While the lads have dominated possession through out the last 4 matches, it’s the final ball that is lacking any scoring threat when it matters, and that’s what separating the team from any strong run into the top half of the table. During the last PL match vs Sheffield United, there was 78% with 815 passes and could only muster six shots on target. The second half brought much more excitement as Cole Palmer took charge in the central playmaking role and was finally able to break the scoreless deadlock. Nicholas Jackson chipped in his 7th PL goal of the season and the Blues produced a clean sheet 2-nil victory. Now we face the Christmas holiday schedule crunch - three games in seven days - 1st up is an away match against Wolves.

Another away defeat & more injuries.

Reece James is out for an extended time again & Robert Sanchez also picked up a knock in the 0-2 defeat at Goodison Park against Everton. It seems like the same story for the past few seasons, loads & loads of possession, but a lack of a real threat to attack in the box score clinical goals. Then the opponents with their paltry possession stats take advantage of their few chances and do what the boys could not do, score goals. We’re now going in the the holiday fixture crunch and the injuries are taking its toll on the squad.

Up next? Sheffield United comes to Stamford Bridge to face the lads. They are currently bottom of the table and a real threat to be relegated this season. Will the boys put on a performance and show that they’re still in it to fight for the top half of the table or will this be another lackluster effort that will result in another defeat? Let cheer them on and get things back on the right foot.

Horrific night in Manchester!

What else is there to say, The lads gave it their all but the Red Devils came away with three points on two Scott McTominay goals and dominated much of the 2nd half in what was a tight 1-1 contest until almost the 70th minute. An early foul in the box by Enzo Fernandez resulted in a penalty, but Robert Sanchez blocked Bruno Fernandes attempt keeping the match scoreless. It was a sign of things to come. United kept the pressure on playing some of their best football so far this season with a 3 to 1 shot to goal ratio against the Blues. Cole Palmer was one of the only stars of that night with a goal to level it at 1-1 assisted by Mykhailo Mudryk. But that was about it as United too control of the midfield and wreaked havoc on the left side with Garnacho & Luke Shaw. Reece James needed all the help to contain both including Moises Caicedo deployed as a right back to assist, but that didn’t help prevent the 2nd goals whipped in on a cross as McTominay headed in his 2nd & go ahead goal to seal it. Let’s forget about this one and move on.

Up next, another short three day rest & return up north to face Everton at Goodison Park. Everton defeated Newcastle 3-0 this week and are out of the relegation zone after getting 10 points deducted from the PL’s version of FFP. The boys have struggled in recent times up in Goodison, but hopefully it’ll be the last match there as Everton moves out of their grounds and into the newly built Everton Stadium starting next season.

What a nail biter of a match!

It wasn’t pretty on a cold & wet Sunday afternoon against Brighton, though it did start well with two early set piece goals. But then the lack of discipline reared it head again with Conor Gallagher sent off with two yellows in the 1st half leaving the boys to defend a 2-1 lead with only ten men the rest of the match. Brighton held lots of possession for the much of the 2nd half and led to many nervy moments, but a challenge on a breakaway by Mudryk where he was pushed & tripped in the box was rewarded a penalty, and Enzo Fernandez coolly puts it straight pass Jason Steele to the Blues some breathing room. It was badly needed as there were 10 minutes of added time which clawed back on another easy goal off a corner kick bring the deficit to one. There was one more controversial moment where there was a VAR review for a handball which turned out to be off of Levi Colwill’s head, got rewarded generously with a drop kick (huh?) rather that a corner kick to Brighton. Ending the match 3-2.

Up next, a short week & trip up to Manchester to face the Red Devils at Old Trafford. The last match ended in a very ugly 1-4 defeat with caretaker manager Frank Lampard in charge. Let’s reset and forget about those matches and get back to some clean & discipline football!

Well that did not go well at all!

It been a running theme: get results against the top teams, build some momentum going into the international break, lose form in a gutting away defeat and reset. The trip up to Newcastle not only was a 1-4 rout, but Reece James picks up a red card and lose him to suspension along with Marc Cucurella for his 5th yellow card of the season.

Fortunately, the squad is starting to get healthy again and we are very close to a Christopher Nkunku return which couldn’t come at a better time. Fingers crossed he’s available soon. Up next? Brighton comes to the Bridge to face the lads in a mid-table matchup before the crazy holiday fixtures pick up.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Can you believe it’s been two weeks we’ve waited after what was the match of the season so far? An exciting & entertaining 4-4 draw in the London rain at Stamford Bridge against the current league leaders, Manchester City.

This match had it all: plenty of goals, more VAR reviews, hard challenges & Anthony Taylor. The lads came out strong early and at one point led the match in the 1st half as they put Citeh on the back foot for much of the 1st 45 minutes. Then the champions fought back with two questionable goals by Erling Haaland, that stood, because Anthony Taylor & VAR of course, but there was redemption in the end as Armando Broja came on as a fresh sub and won us a penalty deep into extra time. Cole Palmer put away the penalty against his former team and sealed a draw to this thrilling match.

What next? A trip up to Tyneside to face the Geordies at St. James Park. Newcastle has been dealing with injury-related issues after a strong start to the season. They have dropped their last two matches in all comps after two big wins against Arsenal & Manchester United. Looks to be another cracking match!

WHAT A CRAZY MATCH!

Two send offs, six yellows, at least 5 VAR reviews and about 20 additional minutes of stoppage time. The boys still ruled London on Monday night with a 4-1 victory at Tottenham. It was close all the way to the end, even with a two man advantage as the lads tried & tried to break through that very high line that Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou used - and it work with the numerous offsides calls against us.

What do we get as a result? Anthony Taylor appointed referee as we face now leaders Manchester City in a Sunday kickoff at the Bridge. Citeh has been on a tear with 12 goals in 3 matches in all competitions. The boys will need to shore up that back line and lock down that mighty attack.

What a gut punch!!!

A wonderful match for about 77 minutes, yet it felt like a defeat. The lads put on an excellent match against the then co-league leaders, Arsenal with goals from Cole Palmer & Mykhailo Mudryk to put them up 2-0, but the Gooners fought & clawed back with a gift Declan Rice goal on a mistake from Robert Sanchez, then leveled it 7 minutes later from an excellent cross from Bukayo Saka that Leandro Troussard taps in to make it two. It was a tough one to only end up with a draw, but boys look promising & help is returning as Reece James is close to full fitness and back in the squad.

FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS!

The season is off to a turbulent start and Mauricio Pochettino has his work cut for him in getting the squad into form already early on. Coming off a 1-3 defeat to the Hammers, where the lads had a promising 1st half, but yet again, gave up an early goal off a corner kick. They were able to level from the attack of Nicolas Jackson & Ben Chilwell who help setup a lovely goal for Carney Chukwuemeka, but unfortunately Carney came out with an injury and we all have our fingers cross that this isn’t long term.
