That was a soul crushing defeat!!!

For 118 minutes of the Carabao Cup final, it was a scoreless affair between Chelsea & Liverpool. Both teams with goals disallowed by VAR, both with shots off the woodwork & some fabulous saves from both keepers. It appeared to be headed to another penalty shootout to determine the winner, but a late corner kick allowed by the Blues gave way to a Virgil Van Dijk header in another defensive set piece lapse, led to a 0-1 extra time defeat to Liverpool. In what was the 1st cup final in almost two years, it resulted as a 6th successive defeat in a Wembley domestic cup final (3 Carabao Cup & 3 FA Cup). This one really hurts, there’s no way around it.

All the effort put into this final by the squad will now have to be quickly forgotten and move forward to the other domestic cup competition in two days - the 5th round of the FA Cup against bitter rival: Leeds United. Let’s put away that pain from yesterday and get on with the next match!
