Brentford FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #4

The real season begins here!

We made it through the 1st 3 matches of the season with a less than ideal preseason training, but have fought our way to 2nd in the table early on with 7 points. It has come with some costs as we have a list of injuries to players who played through the extended season during the summer. Two key starting players will miss extended playing time: Levi Colwill & Liam Delap, meanwhile Cole Palmer has missed two of the first three matches to start the season already, while awaiting word if he will be available to play for this upcoming match away vs Brentford.

Fortunately, the squad is deep and there is cover for all positions this season, but we can’t afford to lose any more players to injury without suffering the consequences. Players have stepped up and produced: Joao Pedro is still scoring goals and producing results in only his 5th competitive match with the club. Estevao has impressed filling the void with Palmer’s injury. And there are more reinforcements with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho & Facundo Buonanotte joining in on transfer day deals. It should be a fascinating West London derby at the Gtech Community Stadium. Let’s keep building that momentum to play through the adversity!

Chelsea FC vs Fulham FC - Match Day #3

Breakout match for Estevao!

With Cole Palmer scratched from the starting XI right before kickoff, Estevao filled in and proved that he is ready for the Premier League! The lads in another London Derby, got off to a slow start against West Ham United who gave it their all for the 1st ten minutes pressing the Blues down 0-1 from a world class goal from Lucas Paqueta. Estevao will learn that you can’t lose possession in a vital part of the pitch and not get punished for it.

Then it all turned around, by the 15th minute the boys got going off a corner kick, with Joao Pedro scoring his 1st league goal for the team and to get the Blues 1st of the season with a nice assist from Marc Cucurella. Next, the boys stepped it up winning possession in West Ham’s defensive half and Joao Pedro with a cross right to Pedro Neto’s left foot who slotted in by the keeper and then by the 35th minute Enzo Fernandez scored his 1st of the season from jaw dropping run from Estevao from 30 yards out to the end line, dropping it off right in front of net for Fernandez to tap in making it 3-1. With that turnaround the West Ham support headed for the exits even before halftime! Two more goals in the 2nd half off corner kicks and the boys never looked back with an empathic 5-1 win at the London Stadium!

Can the lads build on this start and keep the goals coming? We shall see with the 3rd London Derby of the season before the 1st international break at home against West London rivals, Fulham.

West Ham United FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #2

A frustrating London Derby to start the season.

It all ended in a goalless draw at home vs Crystal Palace where the Blues dominated possession for much of the match, but could not unlock the final third in the box and find that break through goal. A similar theme to Enzo Maresca’s team carrying over from last season where opponents setup deep to takeaway all attacking chances to frustrate the lads into making a mistake. It nearly cost them early on when Eberechi Eze scored off a free kick thirteen minutes into the first half, but VAR ruled against the goal as a Marc Guehi was deemed to have cleared the wall illegally to create the goal scoring chance. Both teams ended up defending really well in the 2nd half and scoring chances were very limited. Andrey Santos & Trevor Chalobah has two of the best chances during the match, but both skied their shots way over the bar.

The boys will have to forget this match quick as they return to action in 5 days as they head into another derby away against West Ham United. It been a tricky fixture the last few visits to the London Stadium and this one shouldn’t be any different.

Chelsea FC vs Crystal Palace FC - Match Day #1

Let’s get back to action!

The 2025-26 Premier League begins this weekend and there is plenty of hope to build on after winning two trophies in the previous campaign: UEFA Conference League & FIFA Club World Cup. It was a wild finish to the domestic league as it took a hard fought victory in the final match of the season away at Nottingham Forest to lock out a Champions League spot.

It a fresh new start under Enzo Maresca’s second season with a few new players who are looking to impress the gaffer. Preseason was a blur with only two matches to get the squad back up and running. Up first will be a home matchup against London rivals, Crystal Palace who had themselves a successful season winning the FA cup and defeating Liverpool last week in penalties to win the Community Shield. It’ll be a test of will with a short Summer Break and shortened preseason training, but the lads are already looking in mid season form and looking to take the challenge to all the contenders!

Chelsea FC vs AC Milan - Club Friendly

Off to a good start!

The 1st preseason match for the boys and it was quite impressive. Not even 5 days from returning from the abbreviated Summer break, the Blues won comfortable 2-nil at home vs Bayer Levekusen. Estevao scored his 1st goal for the club - albeit preseason from a rebound off the crossbar. Joao Pedro sealed it late with this 3rd goal already for the club in a month’s time. The lads looked really sharp and controlled much of the match. Few things to sort out defensively but you hardly saw any clear mistakes and that something that has been a focus to improve on for this coming season.

Up next, it’s the 2nd and final preseason match at home against AC Milan. A homecoming of sorts for several ex players: Christian Pulisic, FIkayo Tomori, & Ruben Loftus Cheek. The season is just one week away and the manager & players are in full training to be prepared for the home opener vs Crystal Palace.

It will be an abbreviated preseason after a long Club World Cup tournament, but the focus will be to get ramp up fitness and be ready for the 2025-26 Premier League season. The first match will be at home vs Bayer Leverkusen. Incoming players have been integrated into Enzo Marseca’s tactics with Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, and Estevao who have yet to feature. Chelsea FC vs Paris Saint-Germain FC - Club World Cup Final

It’s been a long & hot summer with an extended the 2024-25 campaign, but it has proved meaningful as Enzo Marseca has gotten the boys into the Finals of the Club World Cup! The biggest challenge yet to come as the Blues face the current European Champions, Paris St. Germain. PSG has been in incredible form as they have steamrolled through the opponents in the Club World Cup including a 4-0 defeat of Real Madrid. The lads haven’t been too bad themselves as they drew the favorable side of the bracket drawing only one UEFA opponent until the final.

This should be an interesting test for the lads, win or lose, but a win would be a great benchmark to end this season’s campaign on a high note.

Chelsea FC vs Manchester United FC - Match Day #37

Devastating defeat!

The high hopes of battling for a top 5 spot in the Champions League took a huge blow last Sunday all in a span of two minutes. As Newcastle stormed the Blues early on to take a 1-nil lead mugging the ball off of Romeo Lavia and converting it to a Sandro Tonali goal. The lead wasn’t insurmountable, but Nicolas Jackson compounded matters by forearming defender Sven Botman in the 36th minute, leaving the squad short a man the rest of the match. Not only that, Jackson is automatically suspended the next three matches, essentially ending his Premier League season and leaving the squad without a centre forward for the next two crucial matches. The lads fought back dominating Newcastle in the 2nd half but to no avail as they could not find a way to goal. Bruno Guimaraes sealed it in dramatic fashion with a shot deflecting off Malo Gusto and over Robert Sanchez’s outstretched arms ending it 2-0 in favor of Newcastle essentially putting 2nd & 3rd place out of reach in the league table for the lads.

The final two matches are still controlled by their own destiny: win out and you qualify for Europe. Anything less, you leave it in the hands of your competitors with another chance to overtake, First up, the final home match of the season against Manchester United. It’s been an awful campaign for the Red Devils but they have a shot to qualify for the Champions League via the Europa League final. They may have their eyes focused on that match on the bigger prize, but still need to finish out the league campaign, and nothing is ever easy. The last time marked an unbelievable Cole Palmer winner at home vs United coming back to win 4-3. Will it be another memorable match, we’ll find out!

Emphatic victory against the Scousers!

Liverpool had their guard of honor as the soon to be crowned 2024-25 Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge, and that was their highlight of the match as It turned out to be a forgetful one. The Blues took hold of the match early on with a Enzo Fernandez goal three minutes in, and never looked back defeating the Reds 3-1. Moises Caicedo dominated Liverpool’s midfield three and they rotated out significantly as their season winds down. Cole Palmer sealing the match with a penalty kick, his 1st goal since January.

Still all to play for with the next challenge heading up to St. James Park to face Newcastle United tied in the table at 63 points each. Points have been difficult to get at St. James Park, but this weekend couldn’t be a better time to draw out a result. Three matches to go and we’ll need to cheer on the lads to get all maximum points possible!

Escape with three points!

December at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was the last time the Blues have won a Premier League away match this season. It’s been a struggle since, with a sputtering attacking. In what seems like another defeat incoming at the hands of Fulham, down 0-1, the lads strung together something they haven’t been able to do away from home since that victory at Spurs: score more than one goal in a league match. Two late goals by Tyrique George in the 83rd and Pedro Neto in the 93rd, helped secure hope that the lads are still fighting it out for the final 5 spots available to qualify for Europe. It wouldn’t have ended their hopes, but it would have been a much more difficult challenge winning matches in the upcoming May fixtures.

Up next, the squad will look to close out the month of April strong at home vs Everton. The last home match vs the Toffees, it was a four goal fest from Cole Palmer. He’ll need to get back his form 1st, as he has been in a goal scoring drought since the start of the year. No better time to find his scoring boots. We’ll need this win to keep up with the table!

Can’t beat the Tractor Boys…

The lads fought back to draw against 18th place Ipswich Town at home 2-2 , but it felt like a defeat as, once again, mistakes led to a early 0-2 hole in the 1st half. Enzo Marseca went for a full attacking setup to take the match to the visitors, but the lack of creativity once they arrive in the 18 yard box has been the running theme of this campaign. Teams know to play a tight defense and take away all angles in front of goal to force them backwards. Eventually, a mistake leads to a transition opportunity which leads to an opponent goal, and that was how Ipswich capitalized on both goals. Halftime adjustments made the difference as a wonderful goal by Jadon Sancho help level the match after spending the majority of the 2nd half with possession but unable to get that final go ahead goal for victory. Maresca has had a torrid time going head to head against Kieran McKenna - he has yet to win in any competitive match vs McKenna (0W- 1L- 3D).

No rest on hand as the final 6 matches of the season will come fast and furious, and this doesn’t even include Conference League play as that will at minimum two, possibly three more matches. Next up is a visit down the road to West London neighbors Fulham FC. This will prove to be a tricky match as Fulham given fits to top opponents in the league this campaign including a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge back in December. If there is any hope to stay in contention for the Champions League, this as is close to a must win as it can get!

The 1st leg at Warsaw, they faced a fierce home crowd that absolutely shook the whole stadium, As how it’s gone all season, it was a struggle in the 1st half to unlock the 1st goal, but tactical changes made by Enzo Maresca taking off Cole Palmer & subbing on Noni Madueke broke the deadlock in the 2nd half with 2 goals. Well, the boys haven’t scored an away goal in Premier League play since February and the last match vs Brentford at the Gtech ended in a 0-0 draw extending that drought until at least to Easter Sunday. But before looking ahead, they have a home match this weekend against 18th place Ipswich Town.

Last time both clubs faced each other, the Blues lost in stunning fashion 0-2 at Portman Road in what seems like the start of their attacking woes since. Enzo Maresca has tried to get the lads firing up once again, but there hasn’t been any consistency since before the winter break. Tottenham always get battered! Everywhere they go.

It was a tight affair as the lads return from the international break into an intense London derby vs Spurs at Stamford Bridge. Both sides played a much more physical & defensive match than the goal scoring fest earlier this season. This match stayed goalless until the 2nd half when a Cole Palmer cross into the box was headed in by Enzo Fernandez to give the Blue a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute. Then a Moises Caicedo shot from just inside the penalty area put the lads up 2-0, but VAR strikes again after a long review and deemed Levi Colwill was offsides by the tightest of margins to keep the score at one. Spurs didn’t attempt any shots in the 1st half, but picked up the pace to chase the match. They appeared to have level it up one all in the 69th minute, but VAR once again confirms a foul on Pape Sarr that wipes the game tying goal off that could’ve tied it up. The win keeps up ahead of the rest for 4th (with 3 teams on 15 wins this season) as it will remain a tight race right to the end.

Up next, it’s another derby this time with West London rivals, Brentford FC, who the squad defeated back in December 2-1 that had put in within striking distance of league leaders Liverpool. Feels like so long ago now as Maresca is still trying to find his team’s goal scoring form once again as they struggle their way out of this scoring slump. 7 matches left in the Premier League season, and the pressure is on. Let’s find out if the lads are able to fend off the competition.

Chelsea FC vs Tottenham Hotspur FC - Match Day #30

It’s been a long two & a half weeks!

But the final stretch of a very long Premier League begins with a London Derby at home vs Spurs. The last match was a 7 goal thriller away at Spurs back in December. Enzo Maresca had the lads all in form and playing at the top of their game right before the Christmas run of matches, but then it has slowly drifted sideways and we are all left thinking where this season could still end up? It’s probably too far out from any Premier League title hopes, but all is not lost, as all matches have their part to determine where the club may be placed by season’s end: possibly back in the Champions League or the Europa League (with two shots at it, being the favorite to win it all in the Conference League).

It was a well needed break as many of the squad players have had time to recover from their injuries and are in close contention to be back in the starting XI. We shall see who Maresca will turn to this Thursday!

Arsenal FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #29

Tough sledding!

Even with a four match win streak across all competitions, it hasn’t been the prettiest of play from Enzo Maresca & the squad grinding out close victories of late. Last weekend’s match vs Leicester City with all the stats in favor of the Blues only resulted in a 1-0 win from a Marc Cucurella goal from outside the box. Cucurella has been one of the most prolific scorers of late for the team, which says a lot about the form of the attacking midfield & forwards recently. Even Cole Palmer’s unblemished penalty kick record was stopped dead on its tracks by Leicester keeper, Mads Hermansen. That will be quite the trivia answer to remember one day.

The lads must find their way to have a potent attack as they go into this London Derby against the best defense in the Premier League & arguably in all of Europe, Arsenal. This will be a difficult challenge for Marseca as he will not have the services of Nico Jackson, Noni Madueke & Marc Guiu in attack. Malo Gusto will be a match time decision as he has missed the last two matches dealing with an ankle injury, but Romeo Lavia may be ready and selected into the starting XI for this one. Either way, the boys will have to dig deep to grab a result at the Emirates, hopefully they will be up for the fight for who is best in all of London!

Chelsea FC vs Leicester City FC - Match Day #28

It’s a tight battle for 3rd & 4th place in the table with a pivotal match at home vs Leicester City that could help the Blues stay in striking distance of the two teams ahead, Nottingham Forest & Manchester City. The boys had a nice long break last weekend from being knocked out early in this year’s FA Cup in the 4th round by Brighton last month.

The will be 11 days between Premier League matches the last match: where the boys trounced last place Southampton 4-nil, and this weekend to face another team that is 2nd to last in table to keep their season alive in the fight for a qualifying spot back to the Champions League. Enzo Marseca did rotate the squad midweek to get some minutes for the youngsters as they traveled to Copenhagen and won 2-1 in the 1st leg of the Conference League round of 16. There was a slight injury scare with Malo Gusto being subbed off early with an apparently ankle injury, but the manager has assured it as a minor injury and may be called into action this Sunday. FC Copenhagen vs Chelsea FC - UEFA Conference League Rd of 16 1st Leg

We are into the knockout rounds of the UEFA Conference League & the boys are back into action as the top seed. Cole Palmer & Trevor Chalobah been added to the Conference League squad as a number of players have moved out since last playing in this competition back in December. Enzo Maresca is pushing for what likely is the club’s only shot at a trophy this season. They will head to Copenhagen this week in the 1st of a 2 leg tie vs FC Copenhagen.

The only other time both clubs went head to head was also in a round of 16th Champions League two leg tie in 2011 winning on aggregate 2-0. Nicholas Anelka scored both goals in the 1st leg and both teams played to a goalless draw in the 2nd leg. It should be an interesting match as Copenhagen are top of the table in the Danish Super League & the lads having a nice 9 day layoff since a 4-0 victory over Southampton in league action. Chelsea FC vs Southampton FC - Match Day #27

It happened again!

Another costly error in the 89th minute turned a closely contested match to a 1-2 defeat. It was all level heading into stoppage time, but a Marco Asensio shot slipped underneath Filip Jorgensen who was in position for the block misjudge the dip of the shot and it hit the back of the net.

Enzo Maresca tried a different formation going with a back 3 and moving Reece James into the defensive midfield which help free Enzo Fernandez & Cole Palmer to be at their best: roam freely and provide creativity to attack. It was promising as Fernandez scored the 1st goal from a Pedro Neto cross within the 1st 10 minutes and before that missed one in from hitting the top corner within the 1st 5. The changes in the end, resulted in the same outcome: score first, missed key open chances to expand the lead, squad begins to fade, opponent takes advantage key mistakes to tie it up or take the victory.

With Villa’s victory, that brings them into the fight with 6 teams battling it out for 3rd and 4th place in the Premier League table for Champions League qualification. Buckle up!

It’s a quick turnaround as the lads head home to face bottom dwellers, Southampton FC who are more than likely bound for relegation with only 9 points through 26 matches. A good opportunity for the boys to maintain their position with a victory, but nothing ever comes easy in the Premier League.

Aston Villa FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #26

Misfiring in attack!

It’s become a habit: loads of possession in the opponents half with little to no shots on goal. Against Brighton, the lads nearly had 70% of the ball throughout the whole match and could not muster a single shot on target. Meanwhile, Brighton pragmatically took their 30% possession and put up three goals, emphatically winning 3-nil against the Blues delivering the heaviest defeat under manager Enzo Maresca so far this season.

Hanging in the balance now is Champions League qualification as getting a top two finish is likely out of the question. There is a 7 team battle for 3rd & 4th place, anything can happen between now and the end of the season with 10 matches left in the season, but the team must find their scoring boots and take advantage of their chances.

A huge match hangs in the balance this weekend as Maresca must get the lads firing again as they travel up to Villa Park to face Aston Villa in a pivotal clash. Can he wright the ship and get the boys clicking, or could this be another sign that sinks our Champions League hopes? We’ll find out Saturday!

Brighton & Hove Albion FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #25

Valentine’s Day Rematch!

Last week’s 1-2 defeat at the Amex Stadium against Brighton knocked the Blues out of the 2025 FA Cup. It was an uninspiring & lackluster performance from the lads, with no Reece James or Nico Jackson on the squad, it was a chance for the rest of the squad to make an impression to the manager, but its the same storyline over and over again: score 1st - from a fortunate gaffe by the goalkeeper, look threatening in attack the next few minutes, then the mistakes creep in, concede goals on miscues, lose the match. The lads are stuck in the spin cycle and need to find a way out of this.

We’ll get another chance as now the focus is to stay in the top 4 and keep the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle United, Bournemouth and Aston Villa who are all within 6 points of the last remaining spot to qualify for the Champions League. It’ll be a tough challenge with 13 matches remaining in the season.

Brighton & Hove Albion FC vs Chelsea FC - FA Cup 4th Round

The 2025 FA Cup Campaign continues as Enzo Maresca & team head down to Brighton in a 4th round matchup at the Amex Stadium. This will be a back to back matchup at Brighton after being selected the away team in this FA Cup match & another scheduled on the Premier League calendar 7 days later.

Last time both played to a thrilling 4-2 Blues victory back in September where Cole Palmer scored all 4 goals in the 1st half. Brighton is licking its wounds from an ugly 0-5 defeat last week at Nottingham Forest, meanwhile the boys played a tough West Ham team in PL action winning 2-1 moving them back into the top 4 of the Premier League table. It should be another exciting match with goals aplenty this Saturday.

Goalkeeper woes!

Costly mistakes was the theme throughout the match against Manchester City as it led to many scoring chances from both sides, but it was the Citizens who were able to cash on those opportunities in that led to a 1-3 defeat at the Etihad last weekend putting Citeh back ahead in the chase for a top four finish as they have won 4 out of their last 5. Meanwhile, the boys have only one win in the last 4, including 2 draws and two defeats.

The Blues were up early within the first 3 minutes of the game as newly signed Uzbek CB, Adbukodir Khsanov gave away the ball right in front of net to make it 1-0. It was a hopeful sign of things to come, but again we did not cash in on those chances. Another chance missed was when Palmer was onside and through on goal, but his pass was a bit heavy to Jackson and it should’ve been a simple one time strike, turned into a full stop & cross back to Jaden Sancho who had his shot blocked missing a golden chance to go up 2.

Citeh started to get themselves back in it match as Phil Foden a minute later, thumped a shot off the post. A few fortunate VAR reviews for offsides kept Citeh scoreless until Josko Gvardiol tied it up right before half as it came off a deflection that should have been cleared by Robert Sanchez. Some questionable & risky tactics by Enzo Maresca playing such a high defensive line and an offsides trap against a very dangerous team at their home ground. The go ahead goal came from Erling Haaland as Sanchez was caught in no man’s land trying to get to the ball unsuccessfully and leaving the net wide open for a chip over his head. The 3rd and final goal came as the lads chased the match and tried to tie it up leaving all that space for Haaland to operate and flick a simple pass to Foden for a breakaway goal. The loss puts us back in a virtual tie with Bournemouth for 6th in the standings as we are only ahead by goals scored.

Now, tt’s a reunion with former manager Graham Potter, now in charge of the Hammers as he visit Stamford Bridge for the 1st time since being sacked in 2023. It’ll be an interesting match to say the least, as it always is in a London Derby,.

Manchester City FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #23

First league win of 2025!

The five PL match winless drought ended with a dominant 3-1 win at home vs Wolverhampton Wanderers. Two goals from defenders Tosin Adarabioyo & Marc Cucurella, then a 3rd by Noni Madueke sealed the game out. Still, there was a moment where doubt did creep in with the recent winless results, as a late 1st half Wolves goal off a gaffe from Robert Sanchez made it 1-1 at the break. The keeper could’ve been stronger in clearing the ball out of the box as it was tapped in by Matt Doherty. Reece James was back in the starting XI as the captain and Trevor Chalobah returned as a Blue after a half season loan to Crystal Palace. Having both players back and fit was sorely needed as Enzo Maresca is managing the squad through some injuries at the moment.

Depth will be key as the boys will travel this weekend up to Manchester to face the current PL Champions, Manchester City. This will be the 2nd league match between both clubs as they opened the season at Stamford Bridge back in August where it was 0-2 defeat to the Citizens in Enzo Maresca’s 1st official match as gaffer facing his mentor, Pep Guardiola. There could be a huge swing in the table with as the lads need a strong result and hold their spot in the race for a top 4 spot against a slew of teams, including City fighting for that last spot for Champions League qualification.
