December Blues!

It’s been a rocky start once again to start of winter fixtures and it feels like deja vu for Enzo Maresca. After impressive performances against Barcelona and Arsenal, the squad has looked flat since in the last three winless matches all away from Stamford Bridge including a draw last weekend at Bournemouth and a defeat in Champions League vs Atalanta.

The bottom is falling and we are not even halfway through the season. What will take to get the boys back putting in a strong effort? Hopefully a home match will lift the team and get the lads back to their November ways. It will be Everton who visit this weekend and support from the home fans will get them going once again.

December is off to a pretty rough start for the Blues - winless in two league matches. Now we turn to the Champions League as the lads head to Bergamo, Italy to face Atalanta BC. This will be the 1st time both clubs have played a competitive match against each other and the 1st visit ever to Bergamo. Moises Caicedo will be available as his red card suspension only applies to domestic competition. Three matches left to go in the league phase and every single point is important for automatic qualification to the knockout rounds!

AFC Bournemouth vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #15

Disappointment at Elland Road!

Following a week of impressive outings against Barcelona & Arsenal, the Blues were outmatched against 18th place Leeds United in defeat 1-3. Enzo Maresca has yet to beat Daniel Farke in four head to head matches and fans will question the squad selection as his team heads into December playing a match every 3 to 4 days for the next 6 matches.

Needing to keep the squad fresh & fit, Maresca made four changes to the starting XI from the weekend derby against Arsenal and it proved to not work. Leeds started a very tall and physical lineup, as expected, and took it to the lads. The signs were there for a letdown early on coming off an intense derby playing 10 men would take much out of the squad. Changes in the 2nd half brought the boys back in it with a Pedro Neto goal making it 1-2, but a crucial giveaway by Tosin in his own box sealed the night in defeat. Cole Palmer made a late appearance for some minutes but looked like he needs to get his legs under him after being off two months with injury.

It doesn’t get any easier as another away match against Bournemouth this weekend. The Cherries looking to stay out of the bottom half of the table have given the lads a tough time over the past few seasons. The boys will need to dig deep in order to avoid another December slump during the season.

Leeds United FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #14

An intense battle with the league leaders!

This past weekend proved Enzo Maresca and the squad are capable of battling for the title this season after a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. It was bittersweet as the lads took it to the London rivals for much of the 1st half, but once again, a red card spoiled the momentum. Moises Caicedo put in a heavy challenge on Mikel Merino that led to a yellow card, but VAR stepped in to review and upgraded this into a red card offense meaning Caicedo will be suspended for the next three matches which could have a impact in a December run of matches.

Up 1st will be an away matchup against rivals, Leeds United at Elland Road. The Yorkshire team has been struggling of late losing the last 4 matches and are currently in the bottom three of the relegation zone. It will still be a tough match as it always is at Elland Road and it will be crucial to come away with three points to stay in the battle up top as the fixtures really ramp up in December - 8 in total across all comps.

Top two showdown!

It’s the highly anticipated matchup we have been looking for: London Derby vs Arsenal. The stakes are even higher as the boys chase the Gunners who are top of the table and can’t afford to drop points as the North London rivals have been poised to run away with the lead this early on. Enzo Maresca has worked wonders adjusting the squad lately to get the most out of them in attack while shoring up the defense with three consecutive clean sheets in league play.

Cole Palmer is close to returning to action and it couldn’t come at a better time with all attacking players starting to find their form. It’s a good problem to have as Estevao has settled in and is prime to breakout as the rookie sensation of the Premier League. Maresca will have to manage the squad and find minutes for everyone. It will be another classic derby and hope that we take it to the Gunners!

It’s a monumental Champions League clash this week as the lads host current Spanish league champions, FC Barcelona. The two clubs had some historical matches over the past years, but haven’t faced each other since 2018 with each having an identical H2H record of 4W-4L-6D in UEFA competition. Expect a strong squad out to test the Spanish giants as Enzo Maresca rotated squad players in the last Premier League match and rested much of the starters to be ready for this one. 3rd in the table!

We’re a quarter of a way through the 2025-26 Premier League season, and the boys have found a bit of form right before going on break. They won six, lost one, and drew once in all comps since the start of October. At times, they have shown their immaturity with 3 red cards in the Premier League (5 in all comps), but that youth is starting to show signs of maturing and soon will have reinforcements back to the squad. Cole Palmer is close to fitness as he’s been out since September. A tricky fixture list is coming after the break, and the squad will need as many healthy players back to be ready & available.

Up first, a trip up north to Turf Moor to face Burnley FC in an early afternoon kickoff. The Clarets are back in the Premier League this year after being relegated in 2023-24 to the Championship. They tied in points atop the table with Leeds United, but the goal differential in tie breaks went against them as they ended up 2nd, but promoted nonetheless. Scott Parker has them fighting off relegation once again as they try to stay up in the Premier League.

Three Points at Tottenham!

An impressive result in North London where the lads shut down Spurs and won 1-nil on a 34th minute Joao Pedro goal from a giveaway which Moises Caicedo, the man of the match, pounced on and assisted Pedro in the 1st half. After that, the lads left Spurs toothless in attack and never surmounted any consistent threat to equalize. Thomas Frank was left to question what went wrong as The Blues extend their current win streak against Spurs to five in a row and 10 wins in the last 12 in all competitions.

The boys are back home to face Wolves who sit bottom of the league table and need to get things turned around before falling too far away in the relegation zone. Just ten days ago, it was an end to end goal scoring fest in the league cup against Wolves at Molineux ending in a 4-3 victory. Three points separate 2nd though 8th in the table, currently, and a win keeps us within distance of the top 4th going into the International Break.

Defeat to the Black Cats!

The lads were simply not good enough as they conceded a dramatic late winner from counter attack by Brian Brobbey to result in a home defeat 1-2. The Blues started very strong early on & capitalized with a Alejandro Garnacho goal to lead 1-nil. But once again, a long throw comes back to bite them in the 22nd minute as Sunderland leveled it up and went to the half tied. A frustrating 2nd half as they could not find a breakthrough before leading to the shock defeat. Enzo Maresca will have to do better and motivate the players to find a breakthrough for goal against teams who setup in a low block.

A London derby awaits as the boys head up to Tottenham to face Spurs. Thomas Frank is now manager and has them team up to 3rd in the table currently as five points separate nine clubs from 2nd to 10th. Three points would seismically shirt the standings over a weekend so lets take it to Spurs and get those points!

Easy Saturday in Nottingham!

A 3-0 Blues victory sealed the fate for Ange Postecoglou as he was sacked minutes after the match ended. It was a goalless 1st half as Enzo Maresca made several changes to the starting XI with players coming back from International duty. No Enzo Fernandez & Moises Caicedo as Andrey Santos & Romeo Lavia started. But early in the 2nd half, Josh Acheampong scored his 1st goal ever in a blue shirt as a senior player with a towering header off a Pedro Neto cross. That kickstarted the run as three minutes later the boys won a free kick just outside of the box and Neto smashes in the 2nd from a wonderful set piece between him and Reece James making it 2-0. There were a few hairy moments by Forest to get back into the match, but Forest could not get shot on target to challenge Robert Sanchez. In the dying minutes, Reece puts one in the back of the net off a deflected corner kick for the 3rd before the match ended.

The lads have seem to have found the scoring form as they’ve put up 8 goals this week, including 5 midweek in a Champions League victory over Ajax. Up next, Sunderland pays a visit to Stamford Bridge and have impressed early on with a strong defensive record putting them 7th in the table and level on points with the lads, but lets find our current scoring form breaks through against our opponents this weekend.

Another goalfest in the works?

An exhilarating 4-4 draw was how it ended the last time The Blues faced Ajax at Stamford Bridge almost six years ago back in November 2019 in a Champions League group match. Two own goals, two penalties, and a red card all just a glimpse of how this match went. Also, who can forget Kepa taking a ball right in the face off the far post that went in the back of the net from a Hakim Ziyech kick?

Nottingham Forest FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #8

Still buzzing two weeks later…

A stunning last minute winner by Estevao helped the Blues defeat the league champions, Liverpool, 2-1 in an end to end affair. The marquee matchup lived up to expectations as Enzo Maresca had multiple changes to his lineup has he dealt with injuries and suspensions with a new centreback pair of Benoit Badiashille and Josh Acheampong both started against the Reds. Reece James captained and led the team off to a fast start after the 14th minute, Moises Caicedo was given all the time and space in the world from 30 yards out and thumped a world class goal that put Blue up in the 1st half. Liverpool responded in the 2nd half after making substitutions, to level it up and then the crazy finish in stoppage time. Enzo Maresca made a sprint to the corner, and celebrated with the lads which ended with him receiving a red card and exiting for the showers before the whistle.

Back from break, we head up to the Midlands to face Nottingham Forest where the Blues finished the 2024-25 season only a few months removed. Levi Colwill scored the winning goal then, securing our ticket back into the Champions League. It’s early, but the October stretch of matches could help separate the current table as the top half are all within 6 points of each other. A run of victories can lift the boys into contention as the season moves forward!

A September to forget!

Red should not be the color, but it changed the outcome once again in last week’s Premier League match vs Brentford. Up 1-0 and comfortably in control, a crucial error was made by Andrey Santos as his back pass fell short and was intercepted by Diego Gomez helped the pressing Kaoru Mitoma. Trevor Chalobah stepped in to challenge and fouled Gomez, but VAR intervened to review and upgraded the foul to a red card. Deemed as a denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Fortunes changed there once again, down a man and changes were made to bring on defensive help. The Blues held on and still in control, but once Brighton made changes to bring on the attack, a flurry of goals in the last 15 minutes, two by Danny Welbeck sealed their defeat at home 1-3.

Chalobah will be missed as he serves a one match ban vs Liverpool adding to the challenge of who the starting centrebacks will be as they face an uphill battle against the league leaders and current Champions this weekend. What will Enzo Marseca do to keep the boys in the battle and avoid tumbling down the table so early on?

FC Bayern München vs Chelsea FC - Champions League Match Day #1

Back in the Champions League!

It’s been two full league campaigns with no appearances into the top flight of European competition, but finally it feels great to be facing the best in Europe once again. The format has also changed since last our appearance in this competition as there are no more group matches in round robin play. A total of 36 teams with each team playing eight matches (four at home & four away) all against different opponents, and determined in one single league table. Once all 8 matches have been played, the top 8 will automatically qualify for the knockout phase, the bottom 8 are also eliminated leaving the remaining 16 to play in a 2 leg home & away tie to see who qualifies into the knockout stages.

The road to European glory begins in Munich up against a familiar rival, Bayern Munich who we’ve had to faced in the finals in 2012, successfully winning our 1st Champions League in dramatic fashion outlasting them on penalty kicks. Now they’ve got a completely different squad but with some familiar faces from the Premier League: Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and of course, Nicolas Jackson. This should be a fascinating match with many headlines as who knows how these two managers: Enzo Maresca & Vincent Kompany, who all came from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City as assistant coach & player captain, respectively, will setup.

Brentford FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #4

The real season begins here!

We made it through the 1st 3 matches of the season with a less than ideal preseason training, but have fought our way to 2nd in the table early on with 7 points. It has come with some costs as we have a list of injuries to players who played through the extended season during the summer. Two key starting players will miss extended playing time: Levi Colwill & Liam Delap, meanwhile Cole Palmer has missed two of the first three matches to start the season already, while awaiting word if he will be available to play for this upcoming match away vs Brentford.

Fortunately, the squad is deep and there is cover for all positions this season, but we can’t afford to lose any more players to injury without suffering the consequences. Players have stepped up and produced: Joao Pedro is still scoring goals and producing results in only his 5th competitive match with the club. Estevao has impressed filling the void with Palmer’s injury. And there are more reinforcements with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho & Facundo Buonanotte joining in on transfer day deals. It should be a fascinating West London derby at the Gtech Community Stadium. Let’s keep building that momentum to play through the adversity!

Breakout match for Estevao!

With Cole Palmer scratched from the starting XI right before kickoff, Estevao filled in and proved that he is ready for the Premier League! The lads in another London Derby, got off to a slow start against West Ham United who gave it their all for the 1st ten minutes pressing the Blues down 0-1 from a world class goal from Lucas Paqueta. Estevao will learn that you can’t lose possession in a vital part of the pitch and not get punished for it.

Then it all turned around, by the 15th minute the boys got going off a corner kick, with Joao Pedro scoring his 1st league goal for the team and to get the Blues 1st of the season with a nice assist from Marc Cucurella. Next, the boys stepped it up winning possession in West Ham’s defensive half and Joao Pedro with a cross right to Pedro Neto’s left foot who slotted in by the keeper and then by the 35th minute Enzo Fernandez scored his 1st of the season from jaw dropping run from Estevao from 30 yards out to the end line, dropping it off right in front of net for Fernandez to tap in making it 3-1. With that turnaround the West Ham support headed for the exits even before halftime! Two more goals in the 2nd half off corner kicks and the boys never looked back with an empathic 5-1 win at the London Stadium!

Can the lads build on this start and keep the goals coming? We shall see with the 3rd London Derby of the season before the 1st international break at home against West London rivals, Fulham.

West Ham United FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #2

A frustrating London Derby to start the season.

It all ended in a goalless draw at home vs Crystal Palace where the Blues dominated possession for much of the match, but could not unlock the final third in the box and find that break through goal. A similar theme to Enzo Maresca’s team carrying over from last season where opponents setup deep to takeaway all attacking chances to frustrate the lads into making a mistake. It nearly cost them early on when Eberechi Eze scored off a free kick thirteen minutes into the first half, but VAR ruled against the goal as a Marc Guehi was deemed to have cleared the wall illegally to create the goal scoring chance. Both teams ended up defending really well in the 2nd half and scoring chances were very limited. Andrey Santos & Trevor Chalobah has two of the best chances during the match, but both skied their shots way over the bar.

The boys will have to forget this match quick as they return to action in 5 days as they head into another derby away against West Ham United. It been a tricky fixture the last few visits to the London Stadium and this one shouldn’t be any different.

Let’s get back to action!

The 2025-26 Premier League begins this weekend and there is plenty of hope to build on after winning two trophies in the previous campaign: UEFA Conference League & FIFA Club World Cup. It was a wild finish to the domestic league as it took a hard fought victory in the final match of the season away at Nottingham Forest to lock out a Champions League spot.

It a fresh new start under Enzo Maresca’s second season with a few new players who are looking to impress the gaffer. Preseason was a blur with only two matches to get the squad back up and running. Up first will be a home matchup against London rivals, Crystal Palace who had themselves a successful season winning the FA cup and defeating Liverpool last week in penalties to win the Community Shield. It’ll be a test of will with a short Summer Break and shortened preseason training, but the lads are already looking in mid season form and looking to take the challenge to all the contenders!

Off to a good start!

The 1st preseason match for the boys and it was quite impressive. Not even 5 days from returning from the abbreviated Summer break, the Blues won comfortable 2-nil at home vs Bayer Levekusen. Estevao scored his 1st goal for the club - albeit preseason from a rebound off the crossbar. Joao Pedro sealed it late with this 3rd goal already for the club in a month’s time. The lads looked really sharp and controlled much of the match. Few things to sort out defensively but you hardly saw any clear mistakes and that something that has been a focus to improve on for this coming season.

Up next, it’s the 2nd and final preseason match at home against AC Milan. A homecoming of sorts for several ex players: Christian Pulisic, FIkayo Tomori, & Ruben Loftus Cheek. The season is just one week away and the manager & players are in full training to be prepared for the home opener vs Crystal Palace.

Chelsea FC vs Paris Saint-Germain FC - Club World Cup Final

It’s been a long & hot summer with an extended the 2024-25 campaign, but it has proved meaningful as Enzo Marseca has gotten the boys into the Finals of the Club World Cup! The biggest challenge yet to come as the Blues face the current European Champions, Paris St. Germain. PSG has been in incredible form as they have steamrolled through the opponents in the Club World Cup including a 4-0 defeat of Real Madrid. The lads haven’t been too bad themselves as they drew the favorable side of the bracket drawing only one UEFA opponent until the final.

This should be an interesting test for the lads, win or lose, but a win would be a great benchmark to end this season’s campaign on a high note.

Our one hope for a trophy to end the 2024-25 campaign comes down to this. Let’s go and take it!!!

Chelsea FC vs Manchester United FC - Match Day #37

Devastating defeat!

The high hopes of battling for a top 5 spot in the Champions League took a huge blow last Sunday all in a span of two minutes. As Newcastle stormed the Blues early on to take a 1-nil lead mugging the ball off of Romeo Lavia and converting it to a Sandro Tonali goal. The lead wasn’t insurmountable, but Nicolas Jackson compounded matters by forearming defender Sven Botman in the 36th minute, leaving the squad short a man the rest of the match. Not only that, Jackson is automatically suspended the next three matches, essentially ending his Premier League season and leaving the squad without a centre forward for the next two crucial matches. The lads fought back dominating Newcastle in the 2nd half but to no avail as they could not find a way to goal. Bruno Guimaraes sealed it in dramatic fashion with a shot deflecting off Malo Gusto and over Robert Sanchez’s outstretched arms ending it 2-0 in favor of Newcastle essentially putting 2nd & 3rd place out of reach in the league table for the lads.

The final two matches are still controlled by their own destiny: win out and you qualify for Europe. Anything less, you leave it in the hands of your competitors with another chance to overtake, First up, the final home match of the season against Manchester United. It’s been an awful campaign for the Red Devils but they have a shot to qualify for the Champions League via the Europa League final. They may have their eyes focused on that match on the bigger prize, but still need to finish out the league campaign, and nothing is ever easy. The last time marked an unbelievable Cole Palmer winner at home vs United coming back to win 4-3. Will it be another memorable match, we’ll find out!

Newcastle United FC vs Chelsea FC - Match Day #36

Emphatic victory against the Scousers!

Liverpool had their guard of honor as the soon to be crowned 2024-25 Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge, and that was their highlight of the match as It turned out to be a forgetful one. The Blues took hold of the match early on with a Enzo Fernandez goal three minutes in, and never looked back defeating the Reds 3-1. Moises Caicedo dominated Liverpool’s midfield three and they rotated out significantly as their season winds down. Cole Palmer sealing the match with a penalty kick, his 1st goal since January.

Still all to play for with the next challenge heading up to St. James Park to face Newcastle United tied in the table at 63 points each. Points have been difficult to get at St. James Park, but this weekend couldn’t be a better time to draw out a result. Three matches to go and we’ll need to cheer on the lads to get all maximum points possible!
