Hard fought draw at the Etihad!
It was a tough start to the New Year for the Blues: the manager resigned, key players injured or suspended, and difficult trip to Manchester to face the Citizens, but the boys got it together for caretaker manager Calum McFarlane as he seized his Premier League moment and stole a point on a late Enzo Fernandez tap in to finish the match 1-1. The mood was relaxed at kickoff as there were several changes to the starting XI with Estevao, Josh Acheampong and Filip Jorgensen starting. Malo Gusto filled in a left back for an injured Marc Cucurella. The manager showed his faith in the squad having them play heavy minutes against a top 3 team in the Premier League table and they held their own for much of the match.
An unfortunate giveaway late in then 1st half led to a thumping goal from Tijjani Reijnders going near post on Jorgensen, who probably could’ve done a bit better to prevent the goal, but there was no panic from the team and McFarlane made the key adjustments in the 2nd half bringing on Andrew Santos, Jorrel Hato and Liam Delap who all made contributions that help keep the match close that led to the eventual game tying goal It was a wonderful all around effort given the circumstances of this past week.
Another midweek battle against the local West London neighbors, Fulham FC at Craven Cottage should prove to be another great test of the squad’s will and determination to stay in the fight for the top 4. Let’s get that victory for Calum!!!
Come down to the Londoner Addison this Wednesday afternoon and kick it with the Shed End Dallas crew. We look forward to seeing you there!
